Yellowhorn from China is a striking smaller tree that is drought tolerant and hardy to Zone 4 (grows in Montana) but almost unknown to Canadian gardens. White flowers on 10 inch racemes appear in May. Each flower has a yellow center that turns red as it ages and matures into a strand of small chestnut like nuts that taste of macadamia when roasted. Best in loamy soils in full sun. The ferny leaves and narrow growth habit make this an elegant tree ideal for covering a fence or shed wall. -25F
