Yellowhorn from China is a striking smaller tree that is drought tolerant and hardy to Zone 4 (grows in Montana) but almost unknown to Canadian gardens. White flowers on 10 inch racemes appear in May. Each flower has a yellow center that turns red as it ages and matures into a strand of small chestnut like nuts that taste of macadamia when roasted. Best in loamy soils in full sun. The ferny ;leaves and narrow growth habit make this an elegant tree ideal for covering a fence or shed wall. -25F
