Driveway in Early May
Peak bloom is in May, when this picture of
lepidotes and redbud was taken, but we have flowers through most of the year
thanks to late fall/winter blooming cyclamen, hellebore and hamamelis.

Tree Collection on Front Lawn
What was once a treeless field of cabbages and tomatoes, with tractor compacted soil right up to the creek's edge, is now home to many rare native and oriental specimens. Marian stands between a June blooming Cornus kousa on the right and a Stewartia peudocamellia on the left. The trunk of a Japanese Hartnut is in the left foreground. Native birch, bald cypress and swamp magnolia shade the creek where a few brown trout swim. Giant coltsfoot is seen in the background along the creek.
Magnolia Asheii in Bloom
The Asheii bloomed all of June into the first
week of July on our front lawn even in this year's heat. The large dinner plate
sized blooms are creamy white and sweetly fragrant.
